1 loaf bread, French or Challah
1 c. whole milk
1 1/2 c. heavy cream
1 c. sugar
2 T. vanilla
2 T. Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
pinch of salt
1 stick butter, diced
*Optional powdered sugar
Spray 9 x 13 baking dish with non-stick spray. Cut bread into large bite-sized chunks and add to baking dish. Cover dish and set aside.
Whisk together next 6 ingredients and pour over bread. With a large spoon, gently press down bread to make sure everything gets coated.
Add first 4 ingredients of topping mixture in ziplock bag and shake to blend. Cut up a cold stick of butter into small pea sized pieces. Add them to the ziplock bag and lightly toss to incorporate the butter with the flour/sugar mixture. Don’t work too long, you don’t want the butter to get soft.
Refrigerate both overnight.
Take out bread dish and topping. Crumble topping eveningly over bread mixture. Set aside. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Bake for 1 hour. Check after 30 minutes and loosely place foil over top of dish if starting to brown too much.
After dish is cooked, remove and dust with powdered sugar if desired. Serve immediately with 100% pure maple syrup.
